Our Mission

In the name of a fallen 9/11 hero, The Pat Lyons Foundation is dedicated to bettering the lives of sick children. We strive to enhance the lives of the seriously ill, and to assist children who have survived cancer and are now experiencing the late effects of their invasive treatments. The Pat Lyons Foundation also funds organizations whose mission is to find a cure for these terrible diseases through pediatric research and ongoing education.

The Pat Lyons Foundation Team:

President:

Irene Lyons-Loeffler  is a  Certified Public Accountant that uses all her accounting skills these days to count marbles and puzzle pieces. As a full-time mommy Irene also runs the administration of The Pat Lyons Foundation as well as organizes the largest one-day charity golf outing on Long Island. She started her career at KPMG and then became the Chief Financial Officer for two wonderful companies, but her favorite job is raising her second grader, Patrick Mate Lyons who is now 7 years old, her little girl, 2 1/2 year old Heather Anne Loeffler, and her precious little 1 year old boy Jack Hunter Loeffler.

Chairman:

Paul Nicholson is Vice President of Print & Broadcast Production for Showtime Networks Inc. in New York City. He brings such magic and wonder to The Pat Lyons Foundation. When the idea to start a golf outing was presented to him he took the idea and ran with it.  Paul has brought the golf outing to levels we never thought we could reach. Paul is a wonderful father of two girls and is married to another PLF member, Joanne Nicholson. Irene says “Paul does things for The PLF and for the golf outing that surprise me every day. In his extremely busy world, Paul’s willingness to give so much of himself to The PLF amazes me.”

Event Coordinators:

Christine Dato met Irene at Adelphi University as they both sat in the front row of their Accounting 101 class. They have been friends ever since. Christine genuinely loves to help people and it clearly shows in her personal life; Christine and her husband Steve raise money for a different charity, or family in need, each year during the Christmas holidays..... she’s always thinking about others. Irene describes Christine as her “personal organizer” as she helps a lot with the office paperwork and tries to keep Irene more organized.   Christine helps make this mundane work fun. Christine is a mother of two, her son is 17 and her daughter is 14. Christine currently is a manager for the jewelry company, Lia Sophia, as well as a teacher at a pre-school in North Bellmore.

Bill Loeffler met Irene through a mutual friend and they were married in February 2006. Bill is a wonderful step-father to Patrick Mate Lyons and is also the father of their 2 1/2 year old daughter, Heather Anne Loeffler and beautiful one year old baby boy, Jack Hunter Loeffler. Bill is a Senior Risk Engineering Consultant for Zurich Insurance.  Bill is a selfless man with a huge heart.  His desire to help others is quite honorable.  Bill is an integral part of keeping The Pat Lyons Foundation organized.  He assists in preparing for our annual golf outing fundraiser which is so large that the preparation begins 8 months before the event and continues for 2 months after the event.  Bill takes his role seriously and as is true with everything he does he does it with pride and to a high level of excellence.  Bill is also on the Board of “Hope for a Cure”, an organization whose mission is to help cure Parkinson’s Disease.

Cheryl Scarry formerly worked for The  Starlight Children’s Foundation for 10 years.  Her experience in the  world of charities is a wonderful asset to The Pat Lyons Foundation. Cheryl also works as a Billing and Collections Assistant at Biomedical Research Alliance of New York in Great Neck.  Her desire to help is  profound. Cheryl met Irene at St. Agnes High School in College Point, Queens. Irene remembers that Cheryl always had to be “running something”. She was very involved with activities at St. Agnes High  School and she was class president at Adelphi University where she graduated with Irene. Following in her comfort area Cheryl is now PTA President of the school where her two boys attend. Cheryl is a full-time mommy of two boys, ages 12 and 9, and a little three year old girl.

Joanne Nicholson is a Certified Public Accountant working as the Chief Financial Officer for Biomedical Research Alliance of New York in Great Neck. Joanne’s successful career started at KPMG where she worked with Irene. Irene describes Joanne as “the brightest person she knows and one of the best moms around”. Joanne has the incredible qualities of being a caring and sincere friend who somehow finds the time to always strive for perfection in everything she does. Joanne has two girls, ages 12 and 10 and, plays a very active role in their lives.  She is also volunteer leader for The Girl Scouts of Suffolk County. Joanne is the beautiful wife of Paul Nicholson.

Technology:

Lee Fuller is a product manager at a financial services software company in New York City. Lee was Pat's brother-in-law and very close friend. They played flag football together for years and being such good friends made all family gatherings much more enjoyable. Lee is our database programmer and also maintains our website, so he works in the wee hours of the morning while his family sleeps. His wife Linda is Irene’s sister, and she has taken on the work of putting the Ad Journal together. Lee and Linda also helps us organize the last minute details and reports needed the day of the golf outing in addition to working at the event to help register golfers. We are very appreciative of their time and all they do in Pat's memory.
